Those Who Truly Encounter Jesus Also See Their Own Heart
A true encounter with Christ produces reverence, humility, and an awareness of our need for grace. In the presence of the Lord’s holiness, the heart is broken, yet it also finds mercy.
Simples Assim, Jesus begins with a calm and grounded presence: the devotional of the day, a public library, and a multilingual experience prepared from the start.

Devotional
Some encounters impress us, move us, or take us by surprise. But a real encounter with Jesus goes deeper: it reveals who God is and, at the same time, reveals who we are. When the light of the Lord’s presence shines, it does not only comfort; it also exposes.
In Luke 5:8, when Peter becomes aware of Jesus’ greatness, he also becomes aware of his own condition and says, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” His response is not self-promotion or spiritual pride. It is brokenness. He sees the holiness of the Lord, and in that light, he sees his own insufficiency.
That kind of humility is precious before God. A broken heart is not a hopeless heart crushed beyond repair. It is a heart that has stopped trusting in itself. It no longer hides behind appearances, but stands before the Lord in sincerity.
Scripture reinforces this truth again in James 4:6, declaring that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. This reminds us that humility is not spiritual weakness, but the safe path of living under the grace of God.
We live in a time when many want to appear strong, prepared, and spiritually impressive. But the gospel leads us in another direction. It brings us to acknowledge that without the grace of Christ, we are unable to stand. Spiritual maturity is not born from the display of strength, but from dependence on God.
Perhaps today you need fewer quick answers and more honesty before God. The Lord does not reject those who come to Him in humility. He receives, restores, and transforms those who recognize how deeply they need His grace. For that reason, reflecting on this truth is not merely a thoughtful exercise, but a call to live each day with reverence, sincerity, and dependence on the Lord.
Prayer
Lord, deliver me from pride and self-sufficiency. Give me a humble, sensitive, and sincere heart before Your presence. May I never lose sight of how deeply I need Your grace and mercy every single day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
