When Heaven Seems Silent

There are days when the soul grows quiet and answers do not come. Saturday teaches us to remain in God even when everything feels suspended.

Devotional

Between the cross and the resurrection, there was a Saturday. A quiet day. A heavy day. A hard day. Jesus had died. His body was in the tomb. The disciples were wounded inside. Everything felt interrupted.

Life often has days like that too. There are moments when a person keeps going, yet inwardly feels tired, confused, and unable to understand what God is doing. Some losses quiet the soul. Some seasons of waiting hurt. Some prayers come out with no strength at all.

In Lamentations 3:21-23, the prophet, even in deep affliction, calls to mind the faithfulness of the Lord. He does not hide his pain. He does not pretend to be strong. He simply holds on to what remains true: the mercies of God are new every morning.

Holy Saturday teaches us that. God’s silence does not mean abandonment. The tomb did not cancel the Father’s love. The lack of an immediate answer did not erase the Lord’s presence. God was still God, even when everything seemed still.

Perhaps you are living through a season like that right now. If so, remain. Do not run from God because of the silence. Stay before Him with the small faith you still have. Stay with tears, if you must. Stay without understanding everything, but stay.

There are moments when the truest kind of faith is simply staying before the Lord. And those who wait for Him slowly discover that even dark days can become a place of maturity, comfort, and grace.

Prayer

Lord, sustain me in the silent days. When I cannot understand what You are doing, guard my heart and keep me from despair. Teach me to wait for You with humility and trust. Amen.

57 ¶ When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
