No appearances, let it be real.

God sees the heart and looks for truth in the person who comes near to Him.

Devotional

Appearance may impress people, but it cannot sustain a life before God.

In 1 Samuel 16:7, when Samuel looks at Eliab, God corrects him and shows him that people look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. From that moment on, Scripture makes it clear that God does not deal with spiritual life at the surface level.

Jesus brings that same truth back in Matthew 15:8, when He says, “This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.”

That shows us that a person can have religious words, a religious presence, and even religious habits, and still have no truth in the heart.

That is why, when Jesus spoke with the Samaritan woman, He said in John 4:23 and 24 that the Father is seeking worshipers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. The issue was no longer the place of worship. The issue was truth before God.

And that message still matters today.

It is easy to manage an image. It is easy to keep up a form. What is hard is standing before the Lord with honesty.

But that is exactly what God is looking for. He is not looking for a heart trained to perform. He is looking for a heart that is surrendered.

When truth is there, worship stops being only words and starts reaching every part of life. A person stops hiding who they are,

lets God deal with what is inside, and begins to live before Him with reverence, humility, and sincerity.

Today, do not try to hold up an image before God.

Today, do not try to look like something before God.

Come to Him in truth.

That is what He sees.

That is what He is looking for.

Prayer

Lord, free me from every empty appearance. I want to stand before You with a true heart. Search me, correct me, and teach me to live with sincerity in Your presence. Amen.
