Persevere in the Process, Stand Firm

Waiting is part of the path for those who follow Jesus, because God prepares the heart before leading us into the next step.

Devotional

After the resurrection, the disciples still had an important step ahead of them. Jesus gave them a clear instruction: “not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father” (Acts 1:4). He then explained that they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit within a few days (Acts 1:5). The promise had already been given, and the waiting was part of their preparation.

Peter needed to stay where Jesus had told him to stay. The same man who had once spoken with great confidence and later denied the Master would now learn to depend on the work of God. Before preaching publicly and leading others, he needed to wait for the promise of the Father.

Years later, Peter himself wrote, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” (1 Peter 5:6). Those words carry the weight of someone who learned to trust God’s timing. The mighty hand of the Lord also sustains the heart while it matures.

Anxiety often grows when the calling seems delayed. We want to see the outcome quickly, understand the road ahead, and feel that everything is moving forward. God knows how to shape His children at the right time. Waiting exposes what we depend on, corrects our motives, and strengthens our trust in Christ.

Peter needed a process, and God worked in him. Christian patience grows from this certainty: the Lord knows how to lead those He has called.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to wait with trust. Help me recognize Your care in the seasons when I still cannot see everything happening. Form in me an obedient and patient heart before Your will. Amen.
