Remain Firm in the Faith

In times of confusion, Jude calls those who follow Jesus to care for their faith and remain in the love of God.

Devotional

Jude wrote to Christians who needed to remember what they had already received. In Jude 1:17-18, he brings back the words spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ about times when people would follow their own desires.

That warning shows that faith needs care. There are seasons when many voices try to take hold of the heart. The letter of Jude calls those who follow Jesus back to what God has already revealed.

In Jude 1:20, the King James Version says, “building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” Faith is cared for before God. It needs to stay close to the Word and to prayer, because the heart grows weak when it drifts from the presence of the Lord.

In the next verse, Jude writes, “keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude 1:21). This brings the heart back to the right place. Remaining in the faith means staying before the love of God, even when the season feels confusing.

Jude closes by remembering that God is able to keep His own. In Jude 1:24, he speaks of Him who is able to keep us from falling. The firmness of faith depends on our decision to trust the care of God.

Prayer

Lord, guard my heart in the middle of confusion. Help me remain in the faith and in Your love. Sustain my life through Your Word. Amen.

17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
