Without Fear of Death, Christ Has Overcome

Death remains a real sorrow, but those who belong to Christ do not have to live trapped by its fear, because Jesus entered our human condition and opened the way of life before God.

Devotional

The fear of death touches a deep place within us. It appears when we think about the end, the loss of someone we love, the weakness of the body, and what we cannot control.

In Hebrews 2:14-15, Scripture says that Jesus took part in flesh and blood, “that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil,” and deliver those who “through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

This passage does not treat death as something small. Jesus did not overcome death from a distance. He entered our reality, knew human sorrow, and went through the cross. Because of this, Christian hope does not come from trying to be strong. It comes from what Christ has done.

Death still brings grief. Farewell still hurts. There are tears that do not need to be hidden before God. But fear does not have to rule the heart of those who are in Jesus.

Christ overcame where we had no strength. He opened before the Father a way that death cannot close. This truth does not remove every pain from the present, but it sustains the soul when the future feels frightening.

Every day, we need to bring to Jesus the fears that try to bind us. Those who belong to Christ can look at life with hope, knowing that the final word does not belong to death.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, strengthen our hearts before the fear of death. Help us rest in the hope that comes from Your victory, and teach us to live before the Father with trust. In Jesus’ name, amen.
