The Point of Reference. Where Is Your Life Firmly Set?

Every life rests on some foundation. When that foundation is Christ, the heart stops depending on what changes and begins to find direction in the truth that leads to the Father.

Devotional

We all look for some point of security. At times, we place the heart in our own effort, in money, in people’s approval, or in the idea that we can keep everything under control.

For a while, those things seem to hold us. But when life becomes heavy, we begin to see how fragile certain foundations can be.

In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

This word calls us to look at the place where we have set the soul. Jesus does not speak as someone presenting one option among many. He presents Himself as the way to the Father, the truth that holds the heart, and the life that does not fade.

When Christ is not our reference, we look for direction in changing voices, unstable feelings, and desires that confuse us. The heart becomes tired because it tries to stand on what cannot remain.

Setting life firmly in Jesus reaches our decisions, fears, and priorities. It also confronts our desire to keep walking our own way while asking God for peace.

Every day, we need to ask honestly where our life is resting. When Christ returns to the center, the heart finds a secure way to walk before the Father.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, set our hearts firmly in You. Help us recognize the fragile foundations we have trusted, and teach us to live by the truth of Your Word. Lead our life to the Father and keep us near to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
