In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
This word reaches directly into our anxiety. Jesus spoke to people who knew real concerns. They needed food, clothing, provision, and safety. He did not treat those needs as small. He showed that the heart cannot be ruled by them.
Many times, we wake up thinking about what is missing. We think about what may go wrong, what needs to be solved, and what we still cannot control. Little by little, urgent things take the center, and God is pushed to the edge of our decisions.
Seeking first the Kingdom means turning the heart back to God before worries consume us. It means asking what pleases the Father, even when pressure increases. It means choosing God’s righteousness when it would be easier to act from hurry, fear, or convenience.
This does not remove work, planning, or responsibility. It places each thing before the Lord in its proper place. When God is at the center, anxiety loses its power to rule the soul.
Every day, we need to give our urgent matters to the Father. Some things need to be done. Other things need to be waited on. In all of it, the heart needs to remain firmly set in Christ.
Prayer
Father, help us seek first Your Kingdom. Guard our hearts from anxiety and teach us to live our responsibilities before You. Place our priorities under the direction of Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
