In Colossians 1:13-14, Scripture says that God “hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
This truth speaks of what God has done for us in Christ. Our rescue did not come from our own strength. God reached us when we were still bound to a life far from Him.
Darkness does not always appear in obvious ways. Sometimes it hides in the guilt we carry, in the fear that God will not receive us, in choices we repeat even when we know they wound the soul, or in the feeling that the past still defines who we are.
But Christ came to bring us out of that dominion. In Him, there is real forgiveness. The heart reached by grace does not need to keep living as though it were still far from the Father.
This does not erase our history, but it changes the place where that history is dealt with. The past loses the right to govern the life of one who has been rescued by Jesus. The light of Christ begins to show the way, even in the areas that still need healing.
Every day, we need to remember where God brought us from and where He has brought us to. Those received into the Kingdom of His dear Son are called to walk near the Father with gratitude and truth.
Prayer
Father, thank You for delivering us from darkness and bringing us near to You in Christ. Help us live as people reached by Your forgiveness and by the light of Your dear Son. In Jesus’ name, amen.
