Simples Assim, Jesus begins with a calm and grounded presence: the devotional of the day, a public library, and a multilingual experience prepared from the start.
We are called to recognize the value God has given each person and to notice when our need for approval takes up too much room. Christ’s love teaches us to honor others without turning every relationship into a competition.
Devotional
Romans 12:10 calls us to love one another with genuine affection and to take the initiative in showing honor. This truth reaches a sensitive place in the heart: the desire to be recognized.
We want people to notice our effort and value what we contribute. When that does not happen, we may interrupt someone or downplay their contribution to regain a sense of importance. At times, even our service carries the quiet hope that someone will see it.
Honor begins when we accept that another person’s value does not lessen our own. God knows each person fully and treats with dignity those we easily overlook. Jesus showed this when He drew near to people on the margins and gave them His attention without seeking recognition for Himself.
This truth takes shape in ordinary relationships. Listening without redirecting the conversation toward ourselves is one way to honor someone. The same care should guide us when correction is needed, so the other person’s dignity is preserved.
Discomfort with someone else’s progress may reveal a need for approval that still controls the heart. Bring it honestly before God. Ask Him to address that insecurity and teach you to take your place without competing for another person’s.
Prayer
Lord, show me when the need for recognition controls my attitudes. Form in me a heart that rests in Your love and can honor each person sincerely. In Jesus’ name, amen.
