The Kingdom Came Through Jesus

John the Baptist prepared the way for Christ’s arrival. In Jesus, God’s Kingdom came near to our lives and continues calling the heart to repentance, trust, and a life guided by Him.

Devotional

In Matthew 3:1-3, John the Baptist announces that the kingdom of heaven is at hand and calls the people to prepare the way of the Lord. In Matthew 4:17, Jesus takes up that message and calls people to repent.

With His arrival, God’s Kingdom entered history in a visible way. Jesus revealed God’s rule through His life and opened the way of reconciliation. His presence also exposed choices that kept the heart distant from God.

Repentance begins when we recognize that distance. We may know the words of Jesus and still direct our lives according to our own will. Fear can control our decisions. Pride can keep us from admitting when we are wrong. We may also hold on to habits that weaken our fellowship with God, even when we know what His Word teaches.

The nearness of the Kingdom calls us to respond to Christ honestly. This includes bringing Him the guilt we hide and allowing His truth to reach the areas we still try to control.

You may know much about Jesus while still resisting Him in part of your life. Ask the Lord to show you where you need to return to Him and receive His rule with trust.
