Jesus Defeated the Power of Death

Hebrews 2:14-15 says that Jesus shared in our humanity so He could defeat the one who held the power of death and free those who lived in bondage to its fear. He took on our condition and passed through death.

That fear may surface when illness comes or when someone we love dies. It may also hide beneath our need to control everything, as though every detail depended on us and we could prevent all suffering.

Christ’s resurrection changes the way we face our frailty. The pain of saying goodbye remains real, and faith does not ask us to treat grief as something small. Death is no longer the final destiny of those who belong to Jesus.

In John 11:25-26, Christ presents Himself as the resurrection and the life. Our hope rests in Him. The security He gives remains when the body grows weak and our days come to an end.

The fear of death may be taking up too much room in your heart. Bring that fear honestly to the Lord. Ask Christ to strengthen your trust through His victory and teach you to live this day with hope.

14 ¶ Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

25 Jesus said unto her, ‹I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:›

26 ‹And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?›
