Let Your Life Point to Jesus

Matthew 5:13-16 records Jesus telling His disciples that they were the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He used familiar images to show that faith reaches everyday life and can be recognized in the way we relate to others.

Salt affects whatever it touches. Light allows people to see what is around them. These images help us examine Christ’s presence in the way we live. Faith becomes limited when our convictions remain in our words and never reach our choices.

Jesus also teaches that good works should lead people to glorify God. Christian life loses its direction when the desire for recognition becomes central. We may do something right while seeking applause, approval, or a spiritual image. Attention then settles on us.

Our witness appears in ordinary situations. Someone notices how we respond when challenged, how we work when no one is supervising, and how we treat people who have nothing to offer in return. These actions reveal what is being formed within us.

Someone may be watching your life more closely than you realize. That person does not need to find perfection. They need to see sincerity, humility, and a willingness to correct the course when necessary.

Ask the Lord to use your life to direct people’s attention toward Jesus. Everyday life gives you enough opportunities to do that.

13 ¶ ‹Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.›

14 ‹Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.›

15 ‹Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.›

16 ‹Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.›
