Live in a Way That God Is Recognized

Matthew 5:16 records Jesus teaching that His disciples’ good works should lead people to glorify God. Ephesians 2:8-10 helps us understand where those works come from: we are saved by grace through faith and created in Christ to live according to what God has prepared.

This truth reaches a common need within us. We may do good in order to be accepted, admired, or viewed as spiritual. When that desire takes over, even a right action can carry the hidden search for recognition.

Grace changes what is happening inside us. We serve because Christ has reached us. Obedience becomes a grateful response, and each choice that agrees with the gospel bears witness to a transformation we did not produce by ourselves.

This can be seen in ordinary situations. Someone may notice it when you act honestly without gaining an advantage, respect a person who cannot repay you, or admit a mistake without protecting your image. These actions may draw attention, yet their purpose is to direct that attention toward God.

Examine what is motivating your good works today. Are you seeking approval, or responding to the grace you have received? When someone recognizes something good in your life, receive it humbly and remember who is shaping your heart.

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
