Galatians 5:16-18 presents the conflict between the flesh and the Spirit and calls believers to live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
This struggle appears in choices that seem small. It arises when someone offends us and we want to return the hurt. It appears when a desire demands room even after Scripture has shown us another way. Pride may try to direct a conversation, and fear may influence a decision.
In those moments, walking by the Spirit takes a concrete form. We need to recognize what is happening within us and bring it into the light of Christ. The Holy Spirit reminds us of the truth, confronts what must be surrendered, and strengthens our willingness to obey.
The presence of conflicting desires does not mean God is absent. The struggle shows that we need to discern which direction we will follow. The question is which voice will have authority over our actions.
Perhaps you are facing a difficult response, a recurring temptation, or a decision shaped by anxiety. Before you act, return to Scripture. Ask the Lord for clarity to recognize the impulse and courage to follow the Spirit’s direction.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, guide my choices today. Help me recognize my impulses, remember Scripture, and obey the Lord even when my desires point in another direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
