Devotional
Jude encourages the followers of Jesus to remain firm, “praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 1:20). This guidance calls us to come before God with honesty, without hiding what is happening within us.
Praying in the Spirit begins when we stop pretending to be strong before God. There are moments when we come into His presence with no clear words and no way to turn pain into prayer. Scripture speaks directly to that weakness. Romans 8:26 says, “the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities,” because “we know not what we should pray for as we ought.”
That truth brings rest. God knows what is in the heart, even when our prayer feels unclear. Romans 8:27 teaches that the Spirit makes intercession according to the will of God. This shows that we are not alone, even when prayer is difficult.
Ephesians 6:18 also speaks of “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” Prayer becomes part of our walk with God. It happens as we open our hearts before Him with sincerity.
Today, we can speak to God as we are. The Holy Spirit helps us when prayer is short, weak, and marked by tears. God hears the heart that comes near to Him in truth.
Prayer
Lord, teach us to pray with sincerity. Help us when we do not know what to say. Let our prayer be guided by Your Spirit and remain before You in truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
