Leprosy marked the body and separated a person from daily life with others. Those who carried that disease also carried shame, loneliness, and fear.
Naaman had to go down into the Jordan. The leprous man in Luke 5 had to come near to Jesus. In each story, visible pain revealed a deeper need.
In Isaiah 53:5, Scripture points to the suffering of the Servant of the Lord and says, “with his stripes we are healed.” This healing leads us to the cross. There Jesus carried the weight of sin and opened the way back to the Father.
We can ask for healing in the body. God hears the cry of those who suffer. But we also need to allow Christ to touch what is hidden within us. Some wounds do not show on the outside, yet they make the soul sick within.
Guilt, pride, fear, hidden sin, and distance from God need to be brought to Jesus with honesty. He does not despise the one who comes broken. He receives the heart that no longer wants to hide.
The deepest healing begins when we let Christ deal with our life before the Father. His forgiveness cleanses what we could never resolve on our own.
Today, ask the Lord to reach your heart. Bring Him what still needs to be made clean.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, heal our hearts. Forgive our sins, cleanse our lives, and bring us near to the Father. Touch what we still carry in silence, and teach us to trust Your mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
