When God Finds Us and Opens Our Eyes
God meets us while we are still following paths that seem right to us. His grace reveals what has drawn us away from Him and begins to transform the way we understand our choices and our lives.
Devotional
Ephesians 2:1-3 describes a life directed by desires and thoughts that lead away from God. This condition does not always appear wrong to the person living in it. We may call something freedom while it controls us and defend choices that are hardening the heart.
Saul experienced this on the road to Damascus. In Acts 9:3-6, he was convinced that his actions were right. The presence of Jesus interrupted his journey. His physical eyes were closed for a time, while a deeper truth began to reach his heart.
We can also move confidently in the wrong direction. Pride makes correction difficult because admitting fault threatens the image we have of ourselves. Sometimes we recognize our blindness only when God interrupts plans we believed were secure.
The grace of Christ meets us there. It reveals what has been shaping our decisions and allows us to recognize a distance we once ignored. This discovery can be painful, but it makes room for a life guided by truth.
There may be an area where you are resisting God’s correction. Ask the Lord to bring light to your motives and show you what you still cannot see clearly.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to Your truth. Show me where I have followed my own direction and teach me to receive Your correction with humility. In Jesus’ name, amen.
