Keep Going When Your Faith Is Tested

James 1:2-4 teaches that the testing of our faith produces patience and that this process contributes to spiritual maturity. These words reach us when we have been waiting for an answer and begin to doubt because nothing seems to be moving.

Difficulty can expose what stayed hidden while life felt manageable. Fear grows, patience wears thin, and the urge to find an immediate solution becomes stronger. In that state, we may make decisions out of exhaustion and try to rush something that still requires waiting.

Abraham knew this struggle as well. Romans 4:18-21 recalls that he continued to consider God’s promise even when reality seemed to stand against it. His story included moments of weakness, yet God continued leading him through the process.

When faith is tested, you may discover that you were relying on results more than you realized. That discovery can be painful, and it can also lead you into a more deliberate trust in God.

If you are tired of waiting, bring that weariness to the Lord. Acknowledge the desire to solve everything on your own and remain close to Christ. Perseverance grows as we keep trusting God inside a situation that has not yet reached its end.

2 ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Knowing [this], that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
