Serve God in the Work You Have Today
Work occupies a significant part of our lives and reveals how we handle responsibility, weariness, and purpose. When we do our work before the Lord, even a simple task can express faithfulness and honor Christ.
Devotional
Colossians 3:22-24 teaches us to do our work wholeheartedly, as working for the Lord. Paul speaks to people living within servant relationships and reminds them that God sees beyond appearances. He knows the attitude with which each task is carried out.
This reaches the days when you are tired, receive little recognition, or work in a role far from what you hoped to do. Discouragement can make every responsibility feel heavy. Frustration may also shape the way you treat coworkers, customers, or people who depend on your work.
Serving God at work includes honesty when cutting corners would be easier. It includes caring for what has been entrusted to you and respecting people who cannot offer you any advantage. It also includes recognizing your limits and seeking fairer conditions when exploitation or injustice is present.
Your job does not define your entire worth, yet the way you work reveals something about what rules your heart. Perhaps no one in that environment knows your faith. Your conduct can still show that you answer to the Lord, even in responsibilities that seem small.
Look honestly at the way you are working today. Is weariness leading you to abandon your responsibility, or can you bring that weariness before God with honesty?
Prayer
Lord, sustain me in the tasks of each day. Give me responsibility, honesty, and wisdom when I am tired. May my conduct at work agree with my faith in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
