Let People Perceive Christ in You

Second Corinthians 2:14-17 presents the Christian life as a fragrance that makes the knowledge of Christ known. Paul also says that he speaks before God with sincerity, refusing to use God’s Word for personal gain.

This image reaches the way people experience us. Someone may perceive Christ in the patience they receive after making a mistake, in the honesty they encounter when we could take advantage, or in mercy offered without self-interest.

Our witness begins before any explanation. It appears at work, at home, and in relationships where no one is watching to offer praise. In those places, our lives reveal what has truly been given room in our hearts.

There is also a danger here. The desire to appear spiritual can lead us to exaggerate experiences, hide weakness, and perform a level of perfection we cannot sustain. Paul points to sincerity lived before God. That includes admitting wrong, asking forgiveness, and allowing Christ to shape the way we respond.

You do not need to manufacture a strong image to make Jesus known. Stay close to Him and consider what your presence leaves with others. Does your life create room for trust, care, and truth?

14 Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

16 To the one [we are] the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who [is] sufficient for these things?

17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
