Faith sustains our entire walk with God. The gospel reminds us that our security comes from the righteousness received in Christ, even on days when guilt, comparison, and fear tempt us to rely on our own efforts.
Devotional
Romans 1:16-17 presents the gospel as the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. In it, Paul declares that the righteousness of God is revealed through faith, and concludes, “The just shall live by faith.”
This truth reaches beyond the beginning of our Christian life. We can still try to sustain our relationship with God through our performance. When we pray more, serve better, or make fewer mistakes, we may feel more secure before Him. When we fail, guilt can make us hide, as though Christ were no longer enough.
Faith brings us back to the place where our hope truly rests. Our acceptance before God does not depend on a favorable record of good works. It rests in Christ, whose righteousness we receive by faith.
This changes the way we obey. We continue to take sin seriously and pursue a life that agrees with our faith, while leaving behind the attempt to earn God’s love. Obedience begins to grow from trust and gratitude.
Look honestly at what is holding your heart today. Are you resting in Christ, or are you trying to present God with proof that you deserve to remain close to Him?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to live by faith. When guilt or pride leads me back to self-reliance, turn my heart toward Christ, my security and righteousness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
