New life in Christ begins with God’s grace, before any effort or result. When we recognize where it comes from, we find security in the love we have received and learn to obey with gratitude instead of trying to earn our faith.
Devotional
Ephesians 2:8-10 shows that we are saved by grace through faith, and that this salvation is God’s gift. Paul directs our attention to the source of hope: it comes from the Lord and reaches us through Christ.
This truth touches something deep within us. We often try to build spiritual security through what we do. We pray, serve, help someone, and expect to feel more accepted by God because of it. Over time, obedience can become a silent demand we place before Him.
Paul presents a different order. God reaches us by grace, and then He prepares good works for us to walk in. Christian service finds its proper place when it grows from a life that has already received the Lord’s love.
This also changes how we look at other people. Grace removes superiority from our hearts because everyone depends on God’s mercy. No one comes before Him with a story strong enough to support their own salvation.
Perhaps you are tired of trying to prove that you deserve to remain close to God. Return to the beginning. Your hope was born in grace, and it remains secure in Christ.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the grace I have received in Christ. Guard my heart from trusting in my own merit and teach me to live gratefully, responding to Your love with obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.
