Desire What Feeds Your Faith. The Food That Helps You Grow

Those who have experienced the Lord’s goodness need to keep feeding on His Word. Faith matures as we allow God to correct our desires, deal with what hinders our growth, and shape our lives through the gospel.

Devotional

In 1 Peter 2:1-3, Peter writes to people who had encountered God’s grace and still needed to grow. Before speaking about spiritual nourishment, he mentions attitudes that had to be put away. New life reaches the way we treat others and what we allow to remain in our hearts.

Peter then uses the image of a child longing for milk. Desire reveals a need. Those who are alive need to be fed.

Faith can also grow weak when we stop seeking what sustains it. We may remain involved in religious activities while going days without giving the Word room to confront our thoughts, reorder our desires, and lead us back to Christ.

Peter reminds his readers that they had already tasted the Lord’s goodness. That experience was not meant to remain in the past. God’s goodness awakens a desire for His presence and a willingness to keep learning.

Perhaps you sense that your faith has grown tired or that certain areas of your life have stopped maturing. Bring that honestly to the Word. God continues to shape those who come to Him with a sincere desire to grow.

Prayer

Lord, create in me a desire for Your Word. Feed my faith, correct what needs to be addressed, and help me mature as I walk with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
